5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Product Business Moving During Half Term

Updated: Feb 18

Half term can feel like a juggling act! You’re trying to run your business, keep the children entertained, and maybe even grab five minutes to drink a hot cup of tea. It’s not realistic to power through your usual workload — and that’s ok.

Instead of trying to do everything, focus on small actions that keep your business ticking over. Here are five things you can do in 10 minutes or less to stay visible and keep momentum going.

If you prefer a podcast to a blog, you can listen to these tips in episode 28 of The Greener Gifting Gang podcast.

1. Share a Glimpse of Your Week

You don’t need a polished post to do this.

Simply share something you’re doing this week. It could be:

  • Packing orders at the kitchen table

  • A behind-the-scenes look at your workspace

  • An activity that shows the reality of running a business during school holidays

Social media stories are a brilliant place for this. They’re quick, informal and perfect for showing the human side of your brand. People love seeing the real you!

2. Ask Your Audience a Question

Engagement doesn’t have to be complicated. You can ask something simple like:

  • “Are you working or taking time off this week?”

  • “What’s your favourite half term activity?”

  • “Would you prefer gift wrap option A or B?”

Use polls if you have them available, or just post a short text question. When people interact with your content, it keeps your business visible without you having to create something big or time-consuming.

3. Talk About What’s Coming Next

If you have an event, offer, webinar or new product coming up after half term, now is the perfect time to mention it.

You don’t need a full sales post, just start planting the seed.

A simple “I’ve got something exciting coming after half term — keep an eye out” builds curiosity and keeps your audience warm. When things settle down again, you won’t be starting from scratch.

4. Spend 10 Minutes Starting Conversations

Set a timer for 10 minutes and go and comment where your ideal customers already spend time.

That might be:

  • Facebook groups

  • Instagram posts

  • Networking communities

Focus on genuine conversation, not selling. Thoughtful comments build visibility and trust. If you’re not in any relevant Facebook groups yet, use those 10 minutes to find a few good ones to join.

5. Think Ahead to the Next Gift Occasion

If you sell giftable products, half term is a great time to quietly think ahead.

What’s the next occasion you want to focus on?

  • Mother’s Day?

  • Easter gifts?

  • Spring birthdays?

Spend 10 minutes jotting down ideas. What could you create? How could you package it? What message would resonate most? A little bit of forward thinking now will really help you after the holidays. Tip! Need some inspiration? Download my 50 occasion ideas list to help you!

Small Actions Still Count

Half term doesn’t have to mean stopping completely or pushing yourself to exhaustion.

Ten focused minutes can make a real difference. Visibility builds over time, and consistency — even in small doses — keeps your business moving.
