Yesterday I had the privilege of being a volunteer at the charity Treatment Bag helping to wrap the products that make up bags for chemotherapy patients. A small group of us worked together to package 90 bags destined for NHS hospitals. On arrival I was welcomed by Maymie one of the trustees; having had a slighty longer journey than anticipated through the morning traffic, I was made to feel at ease immediately and taking through to the packing area. This amazing room was filled with the carefully selected products sourced for the bags and a huge table built specially for the task, with shelves underneath for the colourful tissue paper we were to use. I was excited to get started and listened carefully to the way that we were to wrap each of the items: mouthwash, lip balm, chocolate, herbal tea and a Treatment Bag mug. Each item is quickly rolled in tissue paper without tape or ribbon, ready to pop into the tote bags. Each bag has a handwritten tag on them and there is also a letter from From Me to You Letters inside.
After two hours we were finished, this being a shorter wrapping day than some. Our bags were ready to be taken to the hospitals and will be in the hands of patients later this week.
You can also donate online and send bags to friends and family having treatment; do go and check out how you can support this brilliant charity too.
